About Kay Redfield Jamison
Dr. Jamison, who is a Professor of Psychiatry at John Hopkins School
of Medicine, recently wrote a book on suicide, titled Night Falls
Fast. She revealed her own struggles with bipolar disorder in
her 1995 memoir, An Unquiet Mind, which was a New York
Times Bestseller. Jamison has been named as one of the “Best Doctors in
the United States” and was chosen by Time magazine as a “Hero of
Medicine.”
“Dr. Jamison is as much a hero for her work and accomplishments as
she is for enduring and overcoming her own struggles with bipolar
disorder,” says David Ranz, Executive Director of NAMI Hamilton County.
“Finding the right medication or medications and dosages is a key
challenge for those with mental illness. We’re looking forward to
hearing Dr. Jamison’s thoughts on these subjects, both as a physician
and as a patient.”
Jamison was recently featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show as part of
two programs on bipolar disorder (also known as manic-depressive
illness). These episodes also featured three celebrities who are living
with bipolar disorder: Pop star Sinead O’Connor, Madea’s Family Reunion
actor Jennifer Lewis, and General Hospital actor Maurice Benard.
